330 __ |a\"Huang Tu-Shui was born in Taipei in 1895 and was a pioneer of Taiwanese modern sculptures. Huang was among the first generation of students to study abroad in Japan and learn modern sculpting. He was also the first Taiwanese artist to have his work featured in Japan's Imperial Art Exhibition. His inclusion broke stereotypes of Taiwanese people under Japanese rule only having physical strength. That achievement spurred the Taiwanese to find their self-dignity and pride as a people in the arts."--Hsiao Chong-Ray
