The Ri Xing Type Foundry was established in 1969 and continues working to this day to preserve three distinct, original typesets for traditional Chinese characters. The copper molds used to make types for Chinese characters had become disfigured over the past four decades, so Chang launched the Letterpress Restoration Project to renew the copper molds and digitize lead typefaces. Many volunteers came from France, Japan and Taiwan to join Chang’s project in an effort to preserve and maintain this fading cultural heritage for future generations.
